What is Cervical Cancer?
Cervical Cancer is a cancer of the cervix. It occurs when there is ABNORMAL GROWTH of the cells of the cervix. The growth can spread into normal body parts and can damage them badly. Cervical Cancer usually TAKES YEARS TO DEVELOP, if these changes are found and treated, CERVICAL CANCER CAN BE PREVENTED.
What Causes it?
It mostly caused by an infection with a SEXUAL -TRANSMITTED virus named the HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS or HPV. most HPV infections are temporary and on their own.
How Do I Protect Myself?
The best way to prevent Cervical Cancer is to avoid infection from HPV. All BOYS AND GIRLS SHOULD BE VACCINATED against HPV between the age of 9-13
YSCREENING TEST should be carried out regularly to detect Cervical PRE-CANCEROUS LESIONS. All women age 30 years and above should undergo Cervical Cancer Screening tests AT LEAST ONCE IN 3-5 YEARS.
